Dodo asked Dino how they could possibly go somewhere they had never been, and Dino told him they were not going alone.

That is more or less where I have been sitting this week. There is a version of me that looks at a hall that size and starts quietly wondering whether we are the ones who wandered in by mistake, and I do not think that feeling ever fully goes away no matter how many booths we do.

But we are not the ones who opened this door, so we are trusting that this is where the Lord has led us, and we are excited to see what He does with it next weekend.

When God said, rejection is redirection, I didn't understand what that meant at that time. Turned out I would get it just a few days later only.

We'd applied for Artsobi in December 2025. We were so excited. But in early January, the results came. We weren't accepted.

So I applied for another event I loved, happening that same weekend. Silence for months. Every lie came flooding in. Was it because we're so open about our faith? Were we just not good enough?

And right there, I felt God gently remind me. Rejection is not the end. It's a redirection.

I didn't fully understand what that meant. I just chose to trust Him. And a few days later, completely out of nowhere, an email came in. Artsobi had accepted us, in their third round of selection. Almost six months after I thought that door was shut for good. That's when I understood.

And here's the funny part. When the yes finally came, we hesitated. My husband looked at it and said, maybe we're too old for this one. Honestly, I started doubting too. But it was time to step out of the boat.

So next weekend, on the 29–30 August, we'll be at Artsobi Art Market, Suntec Hall 404–405, probably the oldest ones in the room, with no idea how it'll go. 🙈

If you've had a door close on you this year, one you've already grieved and moved on from, it might not be as closed as you think. Ours took six months to reopen.

You asked, so I am answering.

Reading these together I noticed something. Not one of them was about watercolour. They were about waiting, about holding faith and work in the same hands, about whether an ordinary life has anything worth saying. Which tells me quite a few of us are carrying some version of the same question.

I do not have all the answers. What I have is my own journey, and a God who has been faithful the whole way. I have learnt to trust Him one step at a time, and that is the whole testimony really.

Most of the time I only notice what God was doing after I have written it down. The painting that did not sell is a small example, but it is the one I keep coming back to, because at the time it just felt like a bad day.

My seven year old gave me the courage to try something I thought was impossible to make.

P1 was a hard year for him. He would be quiet when he came home from school, and then at night it all came out. He would tell me what happened that day and cry about his friends, and I sat there not knowing how to help him.

Then his music teacher started to guide him through that tough season. She wrote him a card whenever he made a bit of progress, and he would proudly bring them home to show me. He read them over and over, and I could see he was happy with himself.

That was when I remembered something a teacher told me years ago. It was one of my first school pop-ups, back in the early days of ChezHemdi, and I had always thought of a notepad as something you write your to-do list on. Then she picked one up and told me she would use it to write little notes to her students. It changed how I saw my own product, because the same small piece of paper could carry something a child holds on to. But we were just starting out and so small back then, and customising each one felt like more than I could manage on my own, so I let it go and did not think about it much after that.

Now I can see that the idea was given to me long before I was ready to receive it, and God had a way of bringing it back at the exact moment I finally understood why it mattered. I still was not sure I could do it, but last year I decided to take the step and see what happens. I made them for my own boys' teachers too, and told myself that even if only one other teacher received one as a gift, it would be enough. I had already seen what a few written words did for my own son.

So if there is a teacher who has been writing those little notes to your child, the customised notepads are open for orders now. You can add their name on it, and it becomes theirs to keep using for the next child who needs those words.

Working with your husband looks cute online. Nobody shows you what it takes when you're both stretched thin.

I said recently that ChezHemdi is on hold this season, and it is. But our "Finding Jesus" ang paos don't wait. So we're in crunch time for the designs, late nights on top of everything else, his work, the boys, the ordinary weight of keeping a home running.

And honestly, on the tired nights, the only thing that gets us back to the table is remembering what these are for. Not a deadline. Seeds we get to put in people's hands, so they can share Jesus with someone else.

And that's what I'm learning. What matters most isn't dividing the load well, or just being a good team. It's both of you knowing what it's for, especially on the nights when you're too tired to remember.

One day you will be building something with someone while you're both tired. And it's really going to matter that you both know who you're building it for. For the joy set before us. Hebrews 12:2

I wouldn't be doing any of this without him. ☺️

They didn't see the quiet fairs either, where I stood behind my table for hours and hardly anyone stopped. Or the nine months of drawing and proofing before a design of our "Findind Jesus" ang pao is born. Or the years I spent trying to find my purpose again, at home with my boys, wondering if I can make this work.

And honestly, they still don't see the part that's happening now. I cringe at my own face. The questions in my head before I hit post, wondering if this will help anyone at all, and is it even worth it?

I've learned it's all a process. Every one of those seasons was doing something in me, shaping me into the person I'm meant to be. God was in all of it, in the waiting, behind the quiet table, in the months when nothing was selling and I couldn't tell if I had heard Him right.

So if you're in a season that looks like nothing right now, please hear this. It's not nothing. There's so much of what you do that others will never see, but God sees. He's in it with you, and He goes before you.

I thought this was the start of my busiest season at ChezHemdi. Turns out it is the season to put it on hold.

A few weeks ago we were invited to a church friend's wedding. I was so excited I had already picked out our Indian wear for the whole family. But the night before, my husband came home very late after a long week and told me he was too tired. That night, lying in bed, I told God I'll choose my husband. I thought I meant it. But I woke up the next morning really upset and disappointed. I felt he didn't understand me.

That weekend we sat down and talked properly, and I understood what he had been carrying that he hadn't wanted to put on me.

In the weeks after, I did the dinners and the bedtimes. My own work kept getting pushed back. And somewhere in there I stopped keeping count. I stopped waiting to be noticed and did what was in front of me. That's when his message came, telling me he appreciated me. I teared reading it, because I finally felt understood.

Marriage was never meant to be 50-50. There will be seasons when one of you carries more, and seasons when it's the other. It doesn't mean anyone is doing less. It just means the load moves.

So if the thing you love has to wait this season because someone at home needs you more, I see you. Putting something down for a while is not the same as failing at it. And I'm learning to bring the waiting to God first, knowing He sees it all. 🤗

I didn't feel like I looked good enough to be on camera until a few months ago.

Hi, if you don't know me, I'm Hemdi. Stay-at-home mum to two boys, running a small online stationery shop in whatever pockets of time I have.

I'm 44, and after giving birth twice, I get self-conscious on camera, especially scrolling this app and seeing everyone else young, pretty, all made up. Most days I'm in shorts and a t-shirt, barely any makeup, and sometimes people tell me I look tired without it.

So every time I thought about filming, I'd think about how long my makeup would take. And I'd give up before I even started.

Until I decided, I don't have to do a full routine like everyone else. Just something that works for me. So I built a routine that takes less than five minutes. Now I can show up confidently.

That's really all it took. Not perfect. Just enough to feel like myself and press record.

Can I be honest? This is my first ever GRWM video, and it's a mess. Talking while doing my makeup is so much harder than it looks. I'm clearly not great at multitasking. But I'm learning.

I almost didn't share that post about feeling behind.

Every time I put something vulnerable and honest here about what I’m going through, part of me wants to delete it an hour later. I will tend to overthink it. Who am I to talk about this? What will people think?

But I shared it anyway. And then the messages started coming. Women in their twenties and thirties, telling me their ages, their seasons, things they had never said out loud to anyone. I almost didn't share that post about feeling behind.

Every time I put something vulnerable and honest here about what I’m going through, part of me wants to delete it an hour later. I will tend to overthink it. Who am I to talk about this? What will people think?

But I shared it anyway. And then the messages started coming. Women in their twenties and thirties, telling me their ages, their seasons, things they had never said out loud to anyone. One of them sent the post to her friend, and it turned out her friend had already read it that same week. Neither of them knew the other was struggling with the exact same thing.

For a long time I kept my stories to myself because I thought they were too small or too messy to be of any use. I always thought I was late to the game. But this year I wanted to face my fears and share my stories of faith more openly here. It is not always easy, but it's something I want to give a try and see where the Lord leads. I always felt like I was behind in life. But lately I have been reflecting about God's timing, looking back at the major events in my life and what I thought they would be, or when I thought they would happen. Turns out I was never behind. I was being prepared.

Got married at 35, not at 28 like I dreamt. There was a long season of singleness watching everyone else walk down aisles first. But at 35, I married the man who believes in me more than I do in myself.

Became a mum at 36 and 38, not at 28 and 30. God gave me my boys exactly when He did, in the season I could receive them.

Went to Bible school at 29, not at 16. I came to faith as an adult, I never went to children's church or youth service. But faith found late is not faith any less.

Turned my hobby into ChezHemdi at 40, not at 23. The watercolours started years earlier, in a discouraged season, just for myself. And even at 40, I didn't have it all figured out. I just took a step of faith. God did the rest, and He's still doing it. 🙌

He makes everything beautiful in its time. Ecclesiastes 3:11. Not in my time. In His time. So if your life doesn't look like the plan you had, take heart. Neither did mine. You're not behind either. You're being prepared. 🤗

Waiting is hard. Here are a few things that help me in those seasons.

But first, something the Lord put on my heart early in my season of singleness: waiting is active. Build while waiting. So I did. I built myself, and I built those around me.

These days life looks very different with 2 young kids in tow, but it's the same principle. I build while waiting, through little things in the pockets of time I have.

1. Time for myself. For me it's getting my nails done and window shopping in a busy mall. Not exactly building, I know, but you can't build from an empty tank 😄🤭

2. Meeting a friend every week or two. It's not a lot, but sharing what's on my heart and encouraging one another helps more than I can say.

3. Journaling. Though I wish I did this more often!

4. Weekend services. We go to church every Saturday as long as we don't have events, and that's a non-negotiable for us. We stay back for dinner whenever we can to catch up with our friends.

5. Devotionals, worship and Bible reading. Morning, night, or the middle of the day, whenever I have time. There's no fixed time anymore, and I've made peace with that.

6. This year, in this waiting season, I went back to school for a storytelling course. Studying again, alongside other people, has been one of the most amazing things I've done.

7. And here's the one that surprises me most looking back: the waiting seasons are when I paint and create the most. Maybe because they're the quiet seasons. ChezHemdi itself was born in one.

Waiting seasons are never wasted, and they're not as passive as we think. If you're in one right now, don't just wait it out. Build something in it. You might be surprised what it becomes. ☺️

Two days later, a message came.

Nobody writes cards anymore. They're might be right. So why did I build a business on postcards?

But if ChezHemdi was just about selling postcards, I would've quit a long time ago. Some days barely anything sells. There are so many easier ways I could spend my time than painting, packing boxes, and standing at booths especially as a SAHM with two very active boys.

Then someone stops at our table. She picks up one postcard, reads the words on it, and tells me it's exactly what she needed to hear that week. Some keep the card where they can see it every day. Some send it to a friend on an ordinary day, no birthday, no occasion, just because everyone needs encouragement every day.

That's when I realised. What we're really making, it's not cards. It's seeds.

And I believe my own story is a seed too. So I'm learning to share it more openly here. Imperfectly. In public. Facing the cringe one video at a time. And yet, choosing to have fun while doing it.

So if you've ever wondered whether the small thing you're doing, the small thing you carry, even the small thing you're just trying to get through today, actually matters, let this be your reminder. It does!

This is the artwork God asked me to bring last weekend.

When I felt the Lord nudge me to bring this big artwork to the fair, my biggest fear was what people would think of me. I usually only bring my cards and prints. I had no idea why He wanted me to bring this particular painting.

Many who walked past said they were really nice, and that made me happy. But I would be lying if I said there were no other comments. Slowly my faith wavered. Did I make the right call? Was this even the right market for it?

Then a lady dropped by my booth and we started chatting. She told me she was an artist too, and asked if she could share a story with me. She shared how God asked her to paint an artwork she didn't understand. She obeyed anyway. It was only six months later that God revealed the meaning to her.

I was so amazed. I told her I also didn't know why I had to bring my artwork to this market. She said, "Obedience doesn't always have to make sense." And that stuck with me.

If this painting encouraged even one person who walked past in any way, that's enough for me.

Maybe God is asking you to do something that doesn't make sense right now. To call someone you haven't spoken to in years. Pray for a stranger. Say the word He put on your heart even if it sounds ridiculous. Obedience doesn't always have to make sense. Trust Him, because He will lead you, and He goes before you. 🤗

My trophies of Ls as a creative business owner.

It all started when my husband and I began clearing our house, which was slowly turning into a warehouse. The more he took out, the further I went down memory lane, and then he asked me a question I wasn't ready for and I had to take some time to think about it.

Swipe through for the full story, the jewelry I never sold, the Christmas cards that sold exactly one, the wax seals now lying in a corner of our house, and what all of it taught me about why we create in the first place.

Because here's what I've come to believe. Every heart's desire to create comes from God, and what He plants has a purpose, even the ideas that fail in people's eyes. Not one of them was wasted.

If there's something in your heart to make, don't despise the small beginning. Step out and try, even when you don't know where it will lead. "Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin." Zechariah 4:10

My trophies of Ls as a creative business owner.

It all started when my husband and I began clearing our house, which was slowly turning into a warehouse. The more he took out, the further I went down memory lane, and then he asked me a question I wasn't ready for and I had to take some time to think about it.

Because here's what I've come to believe. Every heart's desire to create comes from God, and what He plants has a purpose, even the ideas that fail in people's eyes. Not one of them was wasted.

If there's something in your heart to make, don't despise the small beginning. Step out and try, even when you don't know where it will lead. "Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin." Zechariah 4:10

Last week I lost it with my boys and God asked me a question!

It had been a long day of work already. I still cooked dinner and had dinner with them, told them for the ten thousandth time to pick up their dirty clothes after shower. My husband was working late. All I wanted was a little quiet time in the shower, and two minutes in, screaming and crying.

Then at bedtime they started kicking each other and whining, and I lost it. I left the room and lay down on the other bed, so frustrated.

And that's when God gently whispered, what are you thankful for today?

What?? That's MY question. The little thing I started with my boys when they were small because they complained about everything. Every night, one thing you're thankful for. Just one.

When I first started asking myself, I had to think so hard to find even one thing. But slowly it changed me. Now I notice things to be thankful for while they're happening. Even last night, after a day like that, the answers still came. I really think this little question has grown my faith more than any big moment.
So maybe it hasn't been a great day for you either. Maybe the kids have been driving you up the wall, or work has been stressful or you're just tired.

🕊️✝️ I'm turning 45 in a few months and it made me think. My life looks nothing like I planned. Here's what I'm ashamed to admit, and what God keeps whispering back.

1. Some days I wonder what I have to show for almost 45 years.
No big career title, no car, no big house. Just a quiet life that doesn't always look like success from the outside. But I'm learning that a quiet life walked with God is not a small life.

2. I compare myself more than I want to admit.
I see someone my age thriving and I go quiet. Comparison doesn't just steal my joy. It steals my voice. And God gently reminds me that He didn't call me to run someone else's race.

3. I still carry guilt about the job I left.
Five years ago I walked away from a stable income, a title, a plan. I had wrapped my whole identity around that role. But God was never after my title. He was after my heart.

4. Some days I don't think I'm doing motherhood well.
I love my boys more than anything. But being patient when I'm exhausted and stretched is hard. Some nights I go to bed feeling like I got it wrong. Then I remember His mercies are new every morning, for my kids and for me.

5. I feel like I'm shortchanging my kids.
There are experiences I wish I could give them but can't right now, and I feel it in my chest. But the greatest inheritance I can give them isn't experiences. It's a home where they see their mum trusting God.

6. I feel like I'm failing my parents from far away.
They're growing older in my home country while I'm here in Singapore. So I pray for them daily, and trust that the God who watches over me here watches over them there too.

I'm turning 45 in a few months and I'm still figuring it out. Still showing up anyway, because God isn't rushing me. He has a plan for my life, and He is never late. 🤗✝️

I'm not going to lie, it can get tiring. Being a mum while building a business is not easy. There were days when I asked myself if I made the right choice.

But I'm glad I didn't let the things I thought I was losing stop me from receiving so much more of what God had in store for me.

I never prayed about it. It was just a quiet worry I carried.

This is the artwork God asked me to bring last weekend.

When I felt the Lord nudge me to bring this big artwork to the fair, my biggest fear was what people would think of me. I usually only bring my cards and prints. I had no idea why He wanted me to bring this particular painting.

Many who walked past said they were really nice, and that made me happy. But I would be lying if I said there were no other comments. Slowly my faith wavered. Did I make the right call? Was this even the right market for it?

Then a lady dropped by my booth and we started chatting. She told me she was an artist too, and asked if she could share a story with me. She shared how God asked her to paint an artwork she didn't understand. She obeyed anyway. It was only six months later that God revealed the meaning to her.

I was so amazed. I told her I also didn't know why I had to bring my artwork to this market. She said, "Obedience doesn't always have to make sense." And that stuck with me.

If this painting encouraged even one person who walked past in any way, that's enough for me.

Maybe God is asking you to do something that doesn't make sense right now. To call someone you haven't spoken to in years. Pray for a stranger. Say the word He put on your heart even if it sounds ridiculous. Obedience doesn't always have to make sense. Trust Him, because He will lead you, and He goes before you. 🤗
